Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Hair Extensions. Q: "Do I need any special styling tools for my new Hair Extensions? A: STYLING TOOLS NEEDED: Large Paddle Brush; blow dryer; Hot Rollers (for curls-use with butterfly clips!); A Shine Complex or Glosser (Target or K-Mart carry both); and a "scrunchie". Q: "Should I wash my hair any differently?" A: Wash hair in the shower as normal. Shampoo only scalp area - extension filament does not absorb dirt or oil, and rinses clean. Apply your conditioner to natural hair, and rinse thru. Towel dry gently, and ALLOW FILAMENT TO DRY without combing. Filament will dry very quickly, and can then be brushed through without tangles. Style the top and sides of your hair as normal-DO NOT USE CURLING IRON. To maintain silkiness in the filament, use some shine complex or glosser. If there is any dryness or split ends, gently brush and blow-dry down last couple inches-smoothing filament-this will "heat seal" it like new! If curl is desired, use hot rollers (with felt). For the wavy filament, simply finger-separate all your strands-this will thicken and groom entire extension! Q: "What kind of special care should I give my extensions?" A: Always be gentle with your extensions, as they are not growing from your scalp as natural hair! To replace lost strands runs $5 each, with a $125 minimum. With normal use, the extensions should last full head to full head - but not longer than 3 months, to avoid stress on the natural regrowth. You may expect to loose 0-6 strands in the first month. This is
normal, and will not change the appearance of the extension. However, if more than that
are lost, consult your extensions stylist regarding your aftercare. A: Do not submerge extensions in Jacuzzi or salt water, rather wear them above the head in a "scrunchie". Lake water is ok, it is soft water. If you swim in a pool, rinse your extensions afterwards and apply shine complex to the strands. When wearing long extensions, loosely braid them at night or wear them in a "scrunchie". Lifter combs or barrettes are fine when placed gently. Q: "Can I remove the extensions myself?" To remove extensions, please consult your extensions stylist. Removing extensions costs around $85 - however, when clients receive a new full head, there is no charge for this service.
